By training in a martial art, you have begun a journey. You have begun
on the warrior's path. The way is long and the path is hard; it is easy to stray. Warriors must have a code of behaviour or they are a warriors no longer- they are only skilled thugs. That is what "stray from the path" really means; it means to become evil. Many people stray from the path because it is easy to be weak. Strength of mind is necessary, not only strength of body.
1] Be courteous at all times, even to fools.
2] If it is in your power, do not allow harm to come to others..
3] Never allow thoughts of gain lead you to do things you know are wrong.
4] Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are low ; leave them to the low.
5] When forced to fight, fight to win. There is no other way.
6] Vindictive or malicious behaviour have no place in the warrior's mindset. These things are low ; leave them to the low
7] Be considerate to others, stern with yourself.
8] Do not be naive. The fact that you strive to an ideal it does not necessarily follow that all people do. Be wary.
Wisdom, benevolence and courage are the attributes of the warrior. Following this code will help develop these attributes. When in doubt, follow The Eightfold Path.
